Big News... Betsy my bride from September has won the Please Touch Museum in Philadelpha's 22nd Annual Book Award for her illustration in the children's book Peanut Butter and Jellyfish. Congrats Betsy! I am so proud of you. It would make a great Christmas gift and you can buy it on Amazon, of course.
Betsy just a few short months ago.
To all my faithful blog readers, hang in there...I'll be catching up soon. Like everyone else, I am mired down in Christmas Card sessions, Savannah Wedding Professionals meetings, Meetings with Professional Photographers of America, (yes, I had big ideas that I was going to be focusing on the business side of my business --contracts, website and fun stuff - and God said, ha!!!), shopping for studio space (more on that later), Christmas Shopping...the list goes on.
I am thrilled for the Savannah Wedding Professionals...we have a whole section of the upcoming Savannah Magazine. Check it out when it hits the shelves in January.
I've neglected my dear blog readers for a week so here is a little something to tide you over....meet the Lowry family. We hit the beach one of the last beautiful nights of the summer and had a fabulous time. Brent is a super Dad because he remembered to bring the gummie bears for Bryant. Nothing like a little reward system to get cooperation. We didn't even need it...the kids were just happy to be at the beach in November.
Take some time for yourself over the busy next few weeks and enjoy the season!

I could say it a million times. Every couple has a personality. Elle's mom hired me for Elle's wedding next April, so today was the first time I met Elle and Nate. I knew I was in for a great shoot when Elle was wearing a fabulous dress and high heels. Of course, they were so warm and wonderful but what I loved most is that they showed me passion. I mean, that had an unbelievable connection with one another and with the camera. There was a "sweet spot" in each interaction...and every few frames, I got it. There is something raw and beautiful in their love. I won't even babble on any more...Elle and Nate are just that amazing! I am dying for April 20th!
I believe strongly in giving back when you can. I was introduced to the The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 1989 because CFF was my Sorority, Delta Phi Epsilon's, National Philanthropy. In 2004, two weeks after I took my oath as president of Delta Phi Epsilon, my nephew, Tate, was born. Within 24 hours he was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. No one in our family has ever had CF. My long-time commitment to CFF became ironclad and I began donating a portion of my business proceeds to CFF and volunteering time locally.
This weekend, I was the official tournament photographer for the Savannah RedBone Trout Celebrity Classic, a fishing tournament to raise money for CFF and my husband, Louis, fished the tournament for the second year. This year, we invited my brother-in-law (Tate's Dad), Keith, to fish. It was so cool to have a fisherman who was directly linked to CF but the best part was HE WON!
Yep, he won Top Rod Day 2 and Grand Champion, most fish on live bait. It was the absolute best. I know Louis and their guide, Eric Adamski,of Georgia Saltwater Charters, were so excited and worked hard as a team to ensure this would be a fabulous experience for Keith. If you want to fish, you gotta call Eric. He is the nicest guy and he knows the spots!
Check out the tourney!
Louis, Eric and Keith bringin in the winning catch.
Keith and his big fish!
Scoring the tourney.
Lou and Keith celebrating on the dock.
The great guys from Memorial Health who fished to "catch a cure"...David Green (making my friend Carrie Wahesh stay in the shot against her will), Oliver Whipple, Keith Goodge, Eric Adamski, Chris Blessing, Casey Harden and Louis. Also from Memorial where Chip Stringer and Derrick Randall.
A great shot of Oliver Whipple (Whip) celebrating a great day on the water! Did I mention he and Chip Stringer were Tournament Grand Champions and agreed to chair next year's event...November 20-22, 2008! You guys rock!
The moment of the announcement for Keith!
Awards, awards...
Thanks to Kristin and Scott from CFF who did a fabulous job putting the Tourney together along with sponsorship from Tubby's Tank House, Bonefish Grill and Bahai Bleu Marina. See you all next year!
So, ya'll know that Allison is my Nanny and she is getting married this August to Jimmy. Yes, we like Jimmy.
Today, I took Jimmy and Al to the Roundhouse Railroad Museum for some engagement images. The place is super cool and I've done some events there but never had the chance to really play around. Since Al works for me...she had to listen and smile as long as I wanted her to:)
We had a great time and Jimmy was a good sport. The funniest part was that I kept telling them to kiss and interact...telling Allison to be sexy. Now, how do you act sexy and intimate for the woman who you Nanny for? Allison kept laughing and I can't blame her...I'd like to think she is Mary Poppins. (You are aren't you, Al?)
throw your wedding all over again what would you do different? A LOT! That is if you were me. Now it isn't that I didn't have a nice wedding. It was a slightly formal affair at a private supper club with tuxes, big dress, big band and all that.
I see things every day in my business that make me think...well, there are a million ways I would do it over..that is, if I didn't run away to Hawaii or Fiji with Louis and tie the knot.
Yes, by now you know, Louis and I threw a party (or as my friends would tell you "a wedding") to celebrate 10 years of marriage. We both subscribe to the belief that life is short and you should have no regrets. We wanted to take a fabulous trip alone but with two small kids and family 800 miles away...well, it wasn't gonna happen. Instead, we decided to celebrate BIG TIME with our favorite people.
And so, come along for the one of the best nights of my life....and the wedding I would have today --well, I guess I did have it, didn't I?
Being informal, fun people who like nice things, we chose to host a good old Southern Low Country Boil at Old Fort Jackson.
Oh, a little photo disclaimer...while there were 6 photographers there, most shots are by me (I can't help it), my Company Photographer, Kelli Boyd and Lisa Colvin, a Christine Hall Photographers (Thanks, Lisa).
First, the details. How can I ever, ever thank the wedding industry professionals who pulled out all the stops for me. They gave their talent without limits and I cried when I walked into the Fort. First up, Amy Harvey out did herself. I handed her an invitation, gave her a three-word description and she turned it into a magical feast for the eyes. She is so, so talented!!!
The cocktail area... and of course, none of this could have beend one without Linda Fullarton of Savannah Special Events and her crew.
Now, the signature detail of the event...a Minette Rushing Custom Cake. Yep, I wanted a huge, fabulous, delicious cake under a spotlight. Minette and all the artists and bakers at her shop each had a hand in my cake. Everytime I look at the images, I am blown away! It was perfect.
DeWayne Tanner, owner of VIP Entertainment, rocked the house. And seemed to enjoy himself, too. Thanks, DeWayne!
The star of the evening with me...Amy Harvey! Love you, Amy!
And my favorite photographers...the DVB Team, Kelli and Heather
Along with all the wedding peeps...we had a blast with our very best friends, most who traveled from far away just to celebrate with us. The Hometown Crew...from Cleveland, OH (though they live all over now).
Lou and his brother, Dean. (Peg, why didn't we get picture:)
The most fun three couples, ever...all we need is a few great bottles of wine, some fabulous lobster and steak and we can fill an entire weekend with belly laughs! Trisha, Kev, Rudy and David --We love you!
JC and Susan --Ohio born --but our first Savannah friends. Go Bucks!!!
More details
And of course...to the ladies who helped conceive this idea and listened excitedly every single month as I debated details, dates, whether to even have the shindig! Kudos to you guys for putting up with me.
My Book Club Girls!!!!
The boys got to fire a canon --no, not my 5D --a real civil war canon. Well, they at least got to yell "FIRE" and be Junior Soldiers.
Noli couldn't take much more revelery. Poor guy!
And Finally - the Love of My Life, Louis. Thanks for a great night, Babe. And yes, like any wedding, I didn't see him all night long. Here's to the 20th party. I think I am going to start planning at the next book club, Wednesday.
