Well, if you are coming to Savannah for your wedding and bringing your whole family, by God, you'd better work a trip into Paula Deen's The Lady and Sons. Paula is famous now but I remember six short years ago when she catered my son's baptism and I went to the kitchen backdoor to place the order. I'd say she has done well for herself, wouldn't you?
So, tonight I covered the rehearsal dinner of Emily and Kyle...to be married tomorrow. They started off the weekend right with some fried chicken and sweet tea...and saved their guest the exhausting wait in line to get in.
Remember I told you I cried like a baby on the last day of school for my boys...well, today was Grayson's kindergarten graduation. After spending 45 minutes motivating (okay, screaming) and primping to get everyone ready, we were out the door looking dapper for the ceremony at church. Good thing I was able to keep my mind behind the lens because if I didn't, I would have lost it. The kids prayed, sang, recited a poem...so darn sweet. Grayson did great and I was so proud.
So when did I lose it? Well I most certainly will tomorrow when I wake up and realize I have an entire summer to try to work and entertain my kids, but tonight I lost it in the Mexican restaurant. Sitting across from Louis and Grayson talking about the ceremony and I just welled up. Lou gave me the old head shake because he knew it was coming --God, I am tearing up now. Crazy. The busy restaurant and I am crying --everyone looking at me --at least it felt that way.
So, you all know my life by now and no hallmark moment goes untainted. Sweet Nolan sitting next to me downing a shirley temple and his fajita looks at me and says "Mom, my tummy hurts bad". Now, if you are the kind of Mom I am, sympathy doesn't run too far into your blood --you know when you are getting played. He didn't look sick.
Lou, for some reason, said "I'll take him to the bathroom". I am sitting there for I swear 10 minutes and Grayson --who went with them because he doesn't want to miss a fun trip to a restaurant bathroom --comes back to the table and as loud as a 6 year old can say " Mom, Nolan is throwing up all over the bathroom."
Yes, I am so proud of my graduate --he can make 10 tables surrounding ours drop their chips right back in the basket and stare. Don't think too many people ordered fajitas after that announcement. Imagine what is ahead for me over the next 12 years or so:)
I wanted to share some news from our best male DVB photographer...who is tragically spending time in Italy photographing a wedding.....in his own words.
"I broke the cardinal rule of wedding photography - I agreed to shoot my stepbrother's wedding on location at a villa in Rome, Italy. I have been turning down the weddings of close family members for years now but given that only nine of us would be in attendance for the ceremony, I felt an obligation. Plus, it was an easy way to avoid having to buy a gift. Given my close relationship with the bride and groom and the spectacular setting of Villa Grazioli in Frascati just north of Rome, I really tried to push myself to make images worthy of my portfolio. Here are some selections from Brad and Lisa's special day. Thanks for posting to the DVB blog."
We miss you, Joe. Drink a fabulous bottle for us under the Tuscan Sun as they say.

Gosh, Laura Lynn booked me almost 2 years ago. Time flies as I just photographed her wedding last Saturday and I could hardly believe it. She looked amazing and everything was so perfect --almost surreal --the colors seemed extra vibrant and the day moved in slow motion so I could absorb everything. The wedding was on Saint Simon's Island at Wesley United Methodist which is one of the most beautiful Island churches I have ever seen. Her dress was a stunning Vera Wang.
Jon was all smiles and everyone in the family was sweet, nice and low, key --no drama --and that alone makes for a great wedding.
The weather was fabulous --I mean really fabulous. We usually have humidity and bugs galore! It was picture perfect! Take a look!
Caught ya peeking Laura Lynn! HA!
The reception was at the fabulous Sea Palms Resort---do you think they order this kinda night for everyone?
Now here is the perfect Sorority Shot. These are the ladies of Alpha Delta Pi. Sorority women have a knack (I know, I am one) for setting up large group shots and every single person can be seen, is smiling and looks great:)
A few months ago, the Grafs came through Savannah on their way to Disney from Raleigh and I had the pleasure of photographing their gorgeous family. Yes, those are twins and their mom is pregnant (no twins)! Congrats! Wonder if it is a boy:) Ha!
